Mike in Almaty, Sept-Oct 2010

Mike Terry spent an exciting few months in Almaty, Kazakhstan and returned home to Memphis with more business partners, accomplishments, and connections!
Mike met with Olympic Boxing Champions and attended a boxing match where he was an honored guest. We are proud to announce that M&B Connection is bringing the Kazakhstan Olympic Boxing Team to Memphis to fight the USA Olympic Boxing team in 2011.
Mike made many contacts for our Training Program, and built relationships with several companies that will be sources for our commodity projects.
We are so excited about all of our projects and can’t wait to bring a group from Memphis to Almaty to share this best kept secret of the world.

Russia in July

in St. Isaac's cathedral in St. PetersburgAugust 4, 2010-I’ve just returned from a two-week trip to Russia. Moscow was in the middle of an awful heat wave, and people were trying to cope the best they could. The whole city was sold out of fans! I met some great new friends, and saw so many beautiful historical sites.
We’re looking forward to the visit of the band Off Beat to Memphis next April.
They are led by a famous Russian pianist, Denis Mazhukov, who plays Jerry Lee Lewis style. Their show is so exciting and fun, I can’t wait for Memphis to see it! The band members and their manager, Victoria Tarnovskaya, are all wonderful people who will be thrilled beyond measure to be here in Memphis, the root of the music they are so passionate about!
I was able to take a 3 day trip to St. Petersburg, which is a 4.5 hour train ride to the north. Ludmilla and Leonid, my hosts, were so hospitable. They happily shared their flat and table with me, and arranged a personal tour guide to show me the amazing sights of St. Petersburg-what a beautiful and endlessly interesting city. The Hermitage, dating from 1754, is the Winter Palace, the former state residence of the Russian emperors. Besides the incredible art of the buildings themselves, the collection includes more than 3 million works of art and artifacts of world culture.I really enjoyed the works of Rembrandt and Picasso. I visited Peterhoff, the incredible estate built by Peter the Great in the early 18th century. There are hundreds of remarkable fountains on the grounds, many overlaid with gold, and each unique. There are even jester fountains, which spray unsuspecting visitors!
In Moscow, friends treated me to an evening performance of the Russian National Dance Show. It was a colorful extravaganza with each number interpreting a different aspect of Russian culture or history.
I found that Russian hospitality challenges the South’s claim to be the best! Everyone encouraged me to return in December, I think in sympathy for enduring the heat. So, my next Russia report will be from the perspective of wintertime. Paka, y’all!

Women’s Meeting

We had a great meeting on March 31st with our Women’s Delegation who will be traveling to Almaty this summer. These women are very intelegent and unique and possess many different talents that will be excellent for the cultural exchange program. I shared my photos of our trip to Almaty and told them about the city and the wonderful people and beautiful scenery, as well as the broadening industrial business happening there. The ladies were all comforted to know more about Kazakhstan and overcome the American stereotypes. It is not anything like the movie Borat with a bunch of cavemen and heathens!!!
We will be working on finding sponsors for the trip in the next few weeks. There are many people there waiting for the group to come so we can become great friends and learn about their fascinating culture as they learn about ours. Thank you to all the women for participating in this exciting endevor! Many great things are sure to come from this and we will keep you updated as we gather more news and information! womens meeting

Amanda’s Thoughts on Memphis, TN

Memphis is ambient and vibrant and filled with art and eccentricity. The third largest city in Tenneessee and located in the mid-south, it is home to many colorful people. Most people live in Memphis because it is grounded in such history. Whether it’s national history or personal history it is home to over 600,000 people and more are moving in every year. Home of the Tigers and iconic legends like Elvis, residents of Memphis carry a sense of pride and understanding in an often muddy and urban life-style. Memphis is ironic and unpredictable. While it is known for its highly reserved and respected church’s such as Bellueve Baptist, there is a melting pot of religions, people, beliefs, and values. Memphis is liberal with consertive morals. People who live in Memphis like living in Memphis and while it looks like a sleepy place, it is alive with history, music, color, art, friends, and family.
